New York City has a long and storied industrial past. For centuries workers have labored long hours to fuel the city’s prosperity. Unfortunately, during these labors many workers were exposed to asbestos without their knowledge. This exposure put them at risk of serious health conditions, including mesothelioma.
New York attorney Joseph P. Williams has more than a decade of experience helping the innocent victims of asbestos exposure fight for the compensation they and their families need to deal with the effects of mesothelioma and lung cancer.

THE DOMINO SUGAR FIRE & ASBESTOS RENOVATION
Located in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn along the East River, the Domino Sugar Refinery is one the last remnants of Brooklyn’s industrial past. Designated a landmark by the city of New York, the facility, which produced refined sugar for decades, ceased operation in 2004.
The building was completely rebuilt in 1882 after a fire largely destroyed the original refinery. Like many facilities constructed throughout the late-19th and early 20th centuries, asbestos was heavily used in the construction and maintenance of the Domino Sugar Refinery.
Asbestos was exceptionally popular as an insulating agent, even for decades after the health dangers it posed were known. The Domino Sugar Refinery in Brooklyn was no exception, and those who worked on its construction or in its maintenance in the following decades may have been exposed to asbestos.
YOU MAY HAVE BEEN EXPOSED IF YOU LIVED NEAR DOMINO SUGAR
Concern over the dangers of asbestos at the Domino Sugar Refinery resurfaced after a YouTube video showed construction workers breaking up large asbestos “plates” on the roof of the facility in the open air, in an apparent violation of asbestos mitigation standards. If you or a family member developed mesothelioma or lung cancer after working at the Domino Sugar Refinery, we welcome you to tell your story to our New York asbestos lawyer and learn how we can help.
